I create artist books that explore storytelling with an abstract visual language. My work combines abstract art and the physical structure of a book. My goal is to document stories that resonate with others.

Each series of books begins with a theme. These themes revolve around a specific color palette, pattern, and/or multi-media experimentation. All the books I make begin with a vague idea - I never have a clear plan for a finished book.

My process of creating books begins with painting large paper sheets. Then, I cut each sheet into smaller pages, arrange them into books, and hand stitch the binding. It is important that the story in each book looks and feels “right”.

My work feels ambiguous… too one-of-a-kind to be a zine, but not polished enough to be an artist book. I’m not interested in the technical skills of book binding. But, I understand the significance and meaning of them. I love screen printed and risograph printed art zines, but I am not sure if my work would translate to print well. I’ve tried to find artists online who are producing work like mine so I might know where or how to share my work. But, unfortunately, I haven’t found much.

Last, but not least: it has always been important to me to use thrifted/secondhand materials - not only with sustainability in mind, but to add a dimension to my creative process. (This also helps me minimize the cost of materials.) The paper I use is from a friend’s aunty who is a retired teacher. The thread I use for book binding is thrifted. Most of my acrylic and gouache paint and ink came from my aunty’s friend who moved away.
