Sarah-Lee (she/her) is a self-taught artist and Asian settler adoptee raised in the Kingdom of Hawaii. Inspired by abstract expressionism, she paints to achieve balance: visual and emotional.

She strives for authenticity, intuition, and curiosity in her creative process. This results in her work being self-expressive and thus personal. Yet, her intentional use of abstract imagery obscures any direct personal meaning. She instead invites the viewer to apply their own interpretation.

In 2022, she began making artist books to develop an abstract visual language. The linear structure of books bolsters her experimentation with various paint media.

Her current interest is the portability of books. Handling an artist book can offer a close connection between the artwork and the viewer. She hopes that connectedness is helpful or meaningful to others.
